Sandra Freij (1975) has a wide-ranging background in photography. Since her teens Freij has explored the world of both art and fashion photography, editorially and commercially. She holds a B.A. from the University for the Creative Arts in UK and also an M.A. from the School of Photography and film in Gothenburg, in native Sweden.

Freij’s pictures have a cinematic quality both in terms of their lighting and their narrative form of expression, an approach that creates a visceral sense of excitement. She is known for her romantic and feminine photos that are marked by subtle sensuality and underlying darkness. With her extensive knowledge of imagery she is highly skilled at balancing ambiguous and imaginative work with both openness and accessibility. Freij is well known for her lighting using a combination of continuous strobe and daylight, which draws inspiration from the Nordic light surrounding her growing up in Sweden.
